Digital Tools for Interpreters

Training session with Maha El-Metwally | Paris, 6 April 2019

Course description

This one-day training session will cover the following core components:

— Paperless Preparation
How Computer Aided Interpreting (CAI) tools, apps for document annotation, glossary management and online preparation resources can lighten the load for busy interpreters.

— Apps and gadgets
that facilitate an interpreter’s life on the go.

— Note digitisation
A review of apps and tools for digitising hand-written notes to easily search them and organise them.

In addition, participants will get an opportunity to try out the tools for themselves.

The workshop is open to AIIC members, candidates and pre-candidates of all regions.

Trainer

Ms. Maha El-Metwally is a conference interpreter for the languages: Arabic (A), English (B), French and Dutch (C). She works for a wide range of international organizations, including the European Institutions and the United Nations. She is a member of AIIC, The Chartered Institute of Linguists (CIoL) and the American Translators Association (ATA) where she serves on the Leadership Council of the Interpreting Division. She is also a Board member and member of the Admissions Committee of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting (ITI).

Maha has an MA in interpreter training from the University of Geneva. She is associated with a number of universities both in the UK and abroad where she contributes to the curricula and gives professionalization talks. She is passionate about technology in the field of interpreting and offers courses on the subject.
